Kids rarely do exactly what you expect, and that's part of the fun. The job starts with finding the right young performers, then creating an environment where they can relax, forget about the camera and be themselves. You can plan the scene, but the best moments often come from something spontaneous, unexpected or completely unscripted. My job is to create the conditions for those moments to happen, while still getting the film we came to make.
